Angus Buchan in Cape Town

Newlands Cricket Grounds, Cape Town...
12 & 13 September 2008...
60 000 people...

No, this was no cricket match or rugby clash or even a rock concert. Traffic was at a stand-still and the stadium was packed for Christian farmer-turned-preacher Angus Buchan.

C&S provided the sound, lighting and staging for the event.
Just check out our new LED screens!

C&S is absolutely thrilled to have been a part of this event.

Cape Town gets INFECTED!

Cape Town party people were once again blown away at the latest Urban Wave party featuring world renowned band Infected Mushroom.

C&S again worked together with Kilowatt AV to make this spectacular event a reality.

The party was held at the Velodrome and around 20 tons of gear transformed the bare venue to the hottest place to be on 13 June 2008.

C&S supplied the sound, lighting, staging, trussing and screens.

Not only did we have a DJ literally rising from the floor on a moving stage to a height of 1.8m, but the trussing was rigged at innovative angles, extending over the stage at angles of 15 and 30 degrees creating a stunning visual effect and enhancing lighting possibilities.

Willie Botha used the GrandMA lighting desk and a full rig of 86 fixtures to its potential and displayed his creative flair and expertise. Mind blowing lighting chases and scenes where sweeping over the crowd the whole night with bursts of strobes and smoke on the peak of every beat!

Our d&b audiotechnic PA once again hit the sweet spot with its clear sound and power providing ample volume and an awesome auditory experience.

The event was a great success and had a crowd of thousands party until the early hours of the morning.

Building our team

As I write this the sound of the vuvuzela and our team’s new found slogan still resound in my ears…Imphilo Enhle!! Yes, life is indeed beautiful.
The C&S team was transformed over the past weekend. From a diverse team divided down lines of race, language, religion, job title and background we have gone to a team of human beings with a common goal and new values founded in respect.
You may call this a miracle, but it is incredible what can be achieved when you work from a foundation of “at the level of respect all people are equal”. Brian Moore and his wife Arthie of Mthimkhulu International took our team through an amazing rollercoaster of a weekend. Not only did we learn more about ourselves, our other team members, the ways we learn and communicate and our different personalities but we had FUN!!

Never would I have imagined our team dancing the Macarena in unison on a cold Sunday morning on a converted train platform in Cape Town!

Brian, Arthie and Suraj were absolutely wonderful. They have a way of relating to people on the level they can understand and feel comfortable with and help you to stretch further than you ever imagined possible while still feeling safe and respected.

Under their guidance past issues were cleared and a way forward was mapped out.

Indeed a new unified team was born.

Viva C&S Viva! Imphilo Enhle! Yes, Life is Beautiful!

Cape Town and all that Jazz!

The much anticipated 9th Cape Town International Jazz Festival kicked off on Friday 28 March 2008 the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
This proudly South African event, ranked among the best jazz festivals in the world, brought together 40 local and international acts at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 28 and 29 March 2008, while offering a range of parallel exhibitions, courses and workshops for music lovers and entrepreneurs.

According to online music magazine Melodytrip's ranking of jazz festivals, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is now No 4 in the world, surpassing events such as Switzerland's Montreaux Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland.
"The formula of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival is simple: bring jazz together with its popular music siblings, says festival director Rashid Lombard.

C&S was involved in the 2008 festival at three different venues. Our biggest contribution was on Sunday 30 March at the concert in Mitchell's Plain.

World famous groups and acts, including The Manhattans and Jimmy Dludlu, entertained crowds in Mitchell's Plain on Sunday at a concert dubbed, "The Human Rights Free Concert". The event was a new addition to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival for 2008. The Sunday concert was aimed at encouraging the youth to live a drug, gang and alcohol-free life style.

C&S is very proud to have been part of the 2008 Cape Town Jazz Festival and we look forward to next year!

Congratulations mr & mrs Botha!

We have some very special news to share…

Guess what the head of sound at C&S has been up to…

On 22 March 2008 Danie and Sanmarie tied the knot!
It was a beautiful and intimate garden wedding set in the magical Stellenbosch winelands.
Sanmarie looked absolutely stunning and Danie as handsome and happy as I’ve ever seen him!
C&S provided sound for the wedding ceremony and sound, lighting and video equipment for the wedding reception. It was so wonderful to see everything come together for these two lovely people.

We wish Danie and Sanmarie all the happiness in the world and only the best for their future together.

Creating an Urban Wave!

On 15 March 2008 C&S provided equipment and services for the Urban Wave party featuring Digweed held at the Oriental Plaza in Cape Town. We finally have some pictures to share, thanks to our client Kilowatt AV.

So we set up ... and delivered a party to be remembered!

A lot of hard work and planning turned into an awesome event!

C&S provided separate stages on different levels, creating interesting dimensions and areas serving different purposes. A trussing structure was erected in an innovative configuration, forming the backbone for the lighting and sound equipment as well as video and plasma screens.

Our Pioneer DJ gear and D&B sound system kept the music pumping loud and clear, all under the control of our Yamaha LS9 digital mixing console.

Lighting was controlled with the full-size GrandMA and it was a visual feast! The rig consisted mainly of Martin mac250 washes and Entours with some crowd blinders, strobes, LED cans and MX10’s thrown in for good measure. We also created a very interesting matrix with Martin Mania SCX500’s, which was very effective.

All of this was complemented by plasma and video screens as well as a laser.

The final effect at the party was nothing short of spectacular!
